Here's a recipe I've held on to for over 40 years. It has never failed to be a crowd-pleaser.
1 ¾ C hot water
1 C uncooked oats
1 C butter
1 C lightly packed brown sugar
1 C white sugar
¾ C walnuts (optional)
2 extra-large eggs
1 ¾ C all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
1 Tbsp cocoa
12 oz package of chocolate chips
Pour hot water over oatmeal and butter. Add brown & white sugar & stir until butter melts. Add eggs, mix well.
Add flour, soda, salt, and cocoa; mix well.
Stir in ½ bag of chocolate chips.
Pour batter into greased and floured 9 x 13” pan. Sprinkle with remaining chocolate chips and nuts.
Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 40 minutes or until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean.
