Positive... Negative... Balance

A quote from SparkPeople:.
It's so much easier to see what's wrong with yourself and your life than to take advantage of what's right. The problem is, too much focus on the negative can affect your attitude and opinion of yourself. It's a quick road to burnout.
While it's important to pay attention to things you can improve, your best bet for a breakthrough lies in maximizing what you're already good at. The secret is to use those strengths to help boost yourself up where you need the help.
What are your major talents? What do you have a special knack for?
Set specific goals to improve those talents and don't fret as much about your weak spots. They'll get the extra help they need as you climb higher.
Better yet, here's another quote I found from the same source:
If you spend too much time working on your weaknesses, all you end up with is a lot of strong weaknesses.
- Dan Sullivan, Business Coach

But it's important to find some sort of balance between recognizing my humanity - and thus recognizing that I'm never going to achieve perfection - and being overly easy on myself - thereby excusing the inexcusable and allowing myself to "coast" rather than striving to improve.

Do you sometimes find yourself struggling to find this sort of balance? How do you handle it?

  2. Hey there! Found you through NOBH and am now following.

Thought-provoking quotes. I'm often plagued by guilt about what I should be doing, or should be doing better. But it gets me nowhere. When I focus on the things I do well, everything seems to fall into place better.

I'm always trying to stretch myself, and I agree that my weak spots will improve as I call myself higher. For instance, my procrastination has lessened as I focus on specific goals and the tasks I must do to achieve them. But when it comes to specific character traits I want to improve on, such as patience, I try to evaluate myself at various moments to see if my responses are in line with the character traits I want to possess.

And I thank God daily for grace!!

  3. It always seems easier to cop out and focus on the negative. It can be hard to put yourself out there and feel good about you and the things you are capable of. I always tell my children there will always be someone who is better off and someone that is worse off than you are. The trick is to learn to be content with YOU! Thanks for linking up with us at NOBH!
