On a more serious note.

First, let me start off by saying that I do virtually nothing illegal. I confess that I do speed on occasion. Once in a while, I do what police call "rolling stops". I'm not implying that I'm sweet and innocent - I am NOT - but for the most part, the things I do aren't things I could be arrested or fined for.

But I'm disturbed by a trend I see for my private life (and yours) to become somewhat of a fishbowl for viewing by forces ranging from the government to, as you'll see in the clip below, the electric company. Watch it, and you'll see what I mean:

I'm not sure where the person who forwarded this to me found this clip, but I admit it bothers me. More and more, our lives are vulnerable to inspection by forces we neither see nor know about. From the electric company to computer hackers, the government to email harvesters, "naked scanners" at airports, and on down the line.

I recognize and accept the need for wary eyes to be on the lookout for terrorists or crazed students with assault rifles, I wonder where the line is between protecting our security and intruding into our private lives. And it worries me.

How about you?

  2. Wow! I am stunned. This is so upsetting. Everyday I feel as if a little more of our freedoms are being taken by our own country.
