Leave it to the Japanese!

The Japanese have a well-earned reputation of being inventive and industrious - a hard-working people. And they've taken this "hard-working" ethic to a whole new level.

A Japanese firm now markets fat-burning underpants. It's made of a non-elasticized material that - according to the manufacturer - will make you work harder when you walk or climb stairs. This is achieved by means of a resin on the fabric which prevents it from stretching, thus creating a tension that requires increased muscular effort in order to shake... or move... your booty.

Although the only fat Japanese person I've ever seen was a sumo wrestler, the Japanese are snapping this product off the shelves at such a rate that, to date, these special underpants are for sale nowhere else. But just you wait - soon, MXP Calorie Shaper Pants may be on sale at YOUR neighborhood store. If you were in Japan, they'd run you about $37 each; I'm sure they'll cost more here. So save up, people!

Still more ludicrous are the products mentioned here. I'm still not 100% certain if the products they advertise are a scam or a satire.

 OR... here's another approach.

You could eat less and move more. You could limit your daily intake of fatty and sugary foods and jack up your expenditure of calories.

Radical thought, huh?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure that the American inventions are all spoofs, but is the Japanese one - which isn't yet available outside of Japan) any less improbable? I think not!

The bottom line is this: to trim down your bottom (and any other problem areas), here are the secrets to success:
  • Eat less.
  • When you DO eat, cut down on the fat and increase the fruits and vegetables.
  • Move more.
  • When you DO exercise, include both aerobic and strength-building activities in your program.
  • Find accurate information about living a more healthy lifestyle. SparkPeople is a great FREE place to start.
  • Seek out people who will support you in your goals. Try the local gym, your employer's wellness program, and online buddies (again, SparkPeople is a great place to start).
  • Don't try to lose it all at once. It probably took you years to get this heavy and out of shape, and it will undoubtedly take more than a few days to get back to a thinner, more active YOU.
  • Don't be discouraged by plateaus. They happen to everyone, and with persistence, you'll be back on the losing side once again.

  2. As a woman who's struggled with weight her whole life, I know there is one "trick" to losing weight. Like you said, eat less move more. I look at it like our spiritual journey, we let go of the things that harm us, and take in the things that make us healthy. I did a Biggest Loser series on my blog about spiritual weight loss.

  5. I LOVE Sparkpeople--it is a GREAT website that helped me to make sure I was eating at least three small meals a day. I do have to say that there are people who DO eat less and move more yet still are overweight. IN FACT, some who are heavier eat TOO LITTLE, though they may LOOK like they are gluttonous (word? It is now!), food-crazed people. I know it isn't the norm, but it DOES happen and the stereotype is that overweight people simply eat too much and don't move, which isn't always the case. Americans as a whole DO eat too much (I don't disagree with you--I'm just thinking of the other side)and don't move enough which is where this stereotype began, but there are plenty of skinny people (with better genes I guess!) who are guilty of this as well. Ideally, we should eat 3-5 mini meals a day while getting in AT LEAST 30 minutes to an hour of aerobic activity daily. Take into account...LIFE and inconvenience and most people barely shove two meals (some of which are completely unhealthy and huge) down their throats before they crawl to their cars and their beds.
I am glad I found your blog on the blog hop--I hope YOU aren't UNHAPPY that I did! I look forward to reading more! http://anothertiredmommy.blogspot.com/2011/11/thanksgiving.html
