God Loves Us

Ordinary things with extraordinary love! You see. We also have the opportunity to be canonized one day, since we are only called to do the ordinary, little things of life.

As people completely consecrated to Jesus, we have within us an attraction toward humble things, hidden things, the seemingly insignificant things of life. Jesus, in fact, to show His Father's love for the world, became so small and helpless that He needed a mother to care for Him.

And Mary felt like a little creature, just like you and me, and found it so natural to say: "Behold the handmaid of the Lord." Yet she had been conceived without sin and was the spotless virgin of our Savior.

In the very instant she surrendered herself completely to the will of God, she was filled with divine grace and with Jesus Himself. Without losing any time, she ran to give Jesus to others. It is surprising that she, the very Mother of God, would run to give Jesus to others. She, who was the Mother of God, went in haste to do the work of a servant.

We know, dear brothers and sisters, what wonderful thing happened. Just as she entered the house, the little baby John, yet to be born, leapt for joy.

It is surprising how God chose a little unborn baby to proclaim the presence of Christ! Yet today, they are trying to kill unborn babies! Let us ask our Lady to remove from mothers' hearts this horrible temptation, to want to eliminate the child in their wombs. If we look around us, there seems to be a growing urgency to destroy the life that God has created. This is in spite of the fact that you and I know full well that each little child - these litlle defenseless children, just like we were once - has been created for greater things: to love and be loved.

The Scriptures tell us, "I have called you by name. You belong to me. You are precious to me. I love you." God Himself declares that we are precious to Him. He loves us, and He wants us to respond to His love.

In a special way, this refers to those of us who have committed ourselves to belong to God. Your vocation, as well as mine, can be summed up this way: to belong to Jesus, to love with the conviction that nothing and no one can ever be seperate from the love of Christ.
