Certainly most cynical people I know are convinced that there are darn few good people left in this world. And even the most optimistic folks occasionally have moments where they may doubt their existence. If you read or listen to the news, I can understand why you might have misgivings. The news media is above all a business, and recounting stories of good people doing good things doesn't sell many newspapers. So they focus on the lurid and the sensational.
But occasionally you run into a news story that confirms that, indeed, good folks still exist. Take, for example, this MSNBC news story, which tells of a Twinsburg, Ohio woman, Leah Kleppinger, who was shopping at a Bed, Bath, and Beyond store nearby when she found a wallet containing $46,000 in a shopping cart. The cynics of this world would expect her to "take the money and run". But Ms. Kleppinger didn't think twice about it for, as she later pointed out, keeping the money would be stealing.
So she turned the money in.
Evidently when the wallet was picked up by its rightful owner, he left a reward for Ms. Kleppinger. The amount of the reward wasn't disclosed, but when interviewed, she said it was "completely unnecessary."

It is always nice to hear about good people still occupying space in this world.

I think I would give the wallet back...I would feel too guilty! good for her, it shows there are still good people for sure!
ReplyDeleteSeriously? Who carries $46,000 with them!? And on top of that is silly enough to leave it behind!? Some people clearly have far too much money. I'm glad the woman got a reward!
