Ingredients:
6 Tbsp butter *
2/3 C slivered almonds
1 lb. green beans, fresh, trimmed
2-3 garlic cloves, minced
2 tsp Kosher salt *
Black pepper to taste
* The original recipe specified unsalted butter, then added salt. I used salted butter & reduced the salt.Melt 4 Tbsp of butter in a 12-inch skillet over medium heat. Add almonds and cook, tossing frequently, until almonds are light brown and toasted (about 3-4 minutes). Transfer them with a slotted spoon to a plate lined with paper towels.
Add green beans, garlic, salt, and pepper to the pan and toss to coat the beans with residual butter. Add 1 C water and simmer gently, tossing occasionally, til beans are fork-tender and fully cooked. If the water evaporates before the beans are cooked, add more as needed (about 1/2 C at a time).
By the time the beans are cooked, the volume of liquid should be reduced to about 1/2 C or less. Add the remaining 2 Tbsp of butter, toss to coat the beans and emulsify the remaining liquid, then transfer to serving dish and scatter the almonds over the top.
Marvelously good!
