Beaufort NC is one of the oldest "cities" in North Carolina. It's small, quaint, and a lovely place to visit, especially for the photographically-inclined. I wanted to share these photos at Sweet Shot and Outdoor Wednesdays. They're a few of my Top Ten Beaufort pix!
The Beaufort riverfront is beautiful, as you can see:
There are many historic homes, some built as far back as the 1700's. I'm sharing this photo at Wordless, Not So Wordless, or Wordful Wednesday:
This is one of the same house, which I'm sharing at Straight out of the Camera Sunday, SOCC Saturday, Pink Saturday, Perceptive Perspectives and You Capture:
There is also a lovely old cemetery full of live oaks. There are folks buried there from the Revolutionary and Civil Wars, as well as some particularly unusual graves. The picture below is being shared at Shadow Sunday:
One example is that of an English soldier "buried standing" in salute to his king.
Another is of a nameless girl who died while on a trans-Atlantic voyage; she was buried in a rum keg, and people had left tokens on her her grave, as you see in this photo I'm sharing at Living Every Moment
I can't help but wonder what her name was, and how her gravestone ended up with no name, simply the legend "Little Girl Buried In Rum Keg". The photos of her gravesite are being shared at Photo Story Friday, Wordless, Not So Wordless, or Wonderful Wednesday and Wordless Wednesday
And, as you see here, some of the "wildlife" comes complete with bright red life jackets!
Near Beaufort is one of three coastal aquariums... or perhaps they're aquaria?? I was fascinated by the jellyfish displays. I'm sharing the first one at Today is Rednesday.
Two Questions for you now: Have you been to Beaufort yet? Don't these pictures make you want to go?
I know Beaufort! Cousins of mine lived for several years in Long Beach, which is nearby. And you're Oh So Righ--it IS a beautiful city!

Yes, these pictures DO make me want to go, and we aren't all that far away! Might just have to jump in the car and make the trip! I'm a new follower from the super mega 7 weekend hop. Would love to have you follow me at http://EverythingBeautifulInItsTime.com!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this wonderful tour of this great city. I noticed the pretty pink flowers everywhere.
ReplyDeleteThe cemetery photos are my favorite. I find myself seeking out cemeteries on my travels, because they always provide (1) a place of calm, and (2) wonderful shadow shots!
ReplyDeleteI ONCE HAD A SHADOW
I once had a shadow—or did it have me?
My shadow and I could never agree.
I would say something, she’d say the reverse;
Our arguments flared, my lips I would purse,
Refusing to speak to her anymore—
So my shadow got up and marched out the door!
I have not seen her from that day to this—
That’s one stubborn shadow I surely don’t miss!

Looks like a gorgeous place and I love the photos. I wonder what the little girls life was like in reference to the nameless grave.
ReplyDeleteWonderful photos ~ wonder what your weather is like in Jan, Feb, March,? am thinking of rental to leave the snow behind in MA ~
ReplyDeleteYou won't see snow in Beaufort NC, I'm betting. Actually we live further inland in the Piedmont, but spent Christmas in Beaufort a few years ago. I wouldn't have gone swimming, but I didn't have to bundle up or wear gloves, either.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Photos! Following via Terri's Wordless Wednesday. Already following you.
