Treasuring. Pondering. Slowing down. Listening.

But Mary treasured all these things, pondering them in her heart.
- Luke 2:19

This verse has always "struck me", I think because I don't find treasuring and pondering things in my heart all that easy to do. I tend to fill up my time with busyness of one sort or another, and find it difficult to slow down enough to truly reflect on the day-to-day miracles that my life is full of.

Slowing down. Listening. Absorbing the wonder. Allowing myself to be so aware of the day-to-day graces that I actually reflect them to others.

What about you?

Are you able to slow down and listen?  Are you able to "treasure and ponder things in your heart"?

  1. Hard for me to slow down and listen too. Always busy. I think keeping busy for me is a defense mechanism. I need to slow down, breath, and listen.
    Thanks for the post:-)

  2. I wrote an article on this verse. Somehow I think Mary was pondering the good things. She wasn't pondering on the pain of childbirth, the unlikely motel room or the long bumpy journey she had endured. Makes me want to ponder on some good things -- to, as you say, be aware of the day-to-day graces and absorb the wonder. Thank you for reminding me.

  3. I'v started meditating on God lately and it does help quiet my mind. I just think of his attributes as I concentrate on my breathing in and out.

It takes effort to just stop.

  5. I ponder too, like Mary thinking of God and His promises. It helps me face this world I am passing through.
