Or at least I hope it doesn't get any stranger than this.
Apparently there's a museum in Iceland called the Phallological Museum. It is said to bring in thousands of tourists each year, and according to this news article, it contains an "extensive collection of phalluses from whales [including a 67-inch specimen from a sperm whale], seals, bears and other mammals." The curator of the museum is one Sigurdur Hjartarson, whose interest in acquiring this collection likely started when he was given a whip made from a bull's penis when he was a boy. (The whip was given to him to help him herd cattle.)
And we haven't even gotten to the weird part.
One of Hjartarson's most recent acquisitions is the penis of the late Pall Aronson, who died at age 95. He bequeathed his phallus to the museum, to the delight of Hjartarson, who said he'd been waiting for 15 years to inherit this unusual... er... um... item. It is now displayed with 275 others.
And we haven't even gotten to the weird part.
Although Aronson's bequest may seem odd to some, he is not alone. Apparently other men have pledged their penises as well. But Aronson's arrived first, and thus floats in formaldehyde at the Phallological Museum in Husavik, Iceland.
Hjartarson said that this was a fitting tribute to the personality of Aronson, who he described as a man who "liked to be in the limelight... He was a boaster, a braggart ... he liked to be provocative."
He must have been quite secure as well, to be willing to have his bequest dwarfed by the 67-inch sperm whale's.
At any rate, if you're looking for an unusual vacation, perhaps you'd like to plan on heading to Iceland. The link for the museum can be found here.
Enjoy!
