A lesson from a skunk?

I found this headline intriguing:

COLORADO SKUNK’S HEAD FREED FROM PEANUT BUTTER JAR

The story involves the rescue of a skunk by an intrepid wildlife officer who spent 10 minutes working to pry a peanut butter jar off the head of a skunk who’d experimented with a new delicacy and found itself in trouble. Once freed, the skunk ran off. Nobody got sprayed, and apparently the skunk was no worse for wear.

This story got me chuckling, and then it got me thinking in allegorical terms:

How often does the urge to try something new or tasty or tempting get me in trouble?

How often does God rescue me from predicaments of my own making?

When he does, how do I respond? Do I make a stink? Do I run away? Or do I stick around and show gratitude in some way?

How about you? Is there anything to be learned from the skunk stuck in the jar?

  2. Get me out of a sticky situation and I'd like to believe I'd be grateful. My heart says yes but my head says shamefully might just depend on who and why. Great reflection.
